Office 365 becomes Microsoft 365

Office 365 will be called Microsoft 365 starting April 21. Subscription prices will remain the same. With this move, Microsoft is bringing both business and consumer packages under one umbrella.

The name change is being made by Microsoft because the Office name would no longer cover it, now that new applications such as Teams, Stream, Forms and Planner are also part of the package.

What are the changes?

  • Office 365 Business Essentials will become Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
  • Office 365 Business Premium becomes Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
  • Microsoft 365 Business becomes Microsoft 365 Business Premium
  • Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlus will become Microsoft 365 Apps (the labels "for business" and "for enterprise" will be used where appropriate to distinguish).

The Office 365 bundles not subject to the name change to Microsoft 365 are aimed at large organizations. These include Office 365 Enterprise (E1, E3, E5), Firstline Workers (F1), Education (A1, A3, A5) and Government (G1, G3, G5). Several of these packages do have Microsoft 365 formulas available with Windows 10 and EMS included. Those bundles will remain as is.
